24-05-2015 - Akfel Joins EPİAŞ As A Founding Partner

EPİAŞ (Energy Exhange Market) will operate wholesale electricity markets in Turkey through acquiring Market Operator License from Electricity Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) according to provisions of the Electricity Market Law No 6446. EPİAŞ will be an energy exchange market for electricity markets in the beginning, but it will cover natural gas and oil markets in the future. Turkey aims to meet its increasing energy demand through a liberal energy market and has a target of being a center for regional energy markets. EPİAŞ established within the organizational structure of Borsa İstanbul, has an importance for increasing the attractiveness of energy investments in Turkey. Establishment process of EPİAŞ has been completed in March 2015 and the Company will make Turkey closer to its energy targets of the year 2023.

EPİAŞ will provide significant contributions in energy markets like providing proper conditions for supply security, increasing liquidity, effective risk management, transparency and portfolio optimization. These factors will enable Turkey to become a hub for energy trading with its reliable energy markets. EPİAŞ will also provide an environment for consumer friendly energy prices.

EMRA announced invitation for Group C share submissions between the dates 01.07.2014 – 29.08.2014. EMRA has approved applications of Enerjim Co. and Akfel Gas Co. for being founding partners of EPİAŞ. Akfel with its affiliates will continue supporting the continuous improvement of Turkish energy markets.
